FAQs

1
What is online therapy/counselling?
Online psychotherapy is provided through a secure telemedicine platform that you can access from your desktop or mobile device. Much like in-person sessions, you will talk about your concerns through a live videoconference.
After the Covid-19 pandemic forced almost all counselling services online for a period of time, I found that many of my clients still preferred virtual sessions over in-person due to the convenience and comfort.
Live online therapy has been shown to be as effective as in-person therapy for a variety of concerns, but is not for everyone. You must be in Saskatchewan to participate in services. If you are unsure whether this format is right for you, please contact Dr. Foster for more information.

What is sex therapy?
Sex therapy is a form of talk therapy or counselling aimed at helping people resolve sexual problems or improve sexual satisfaction. In session, individuals or couples talk about their concerns and may be provided with homework exercises to try at home (in private) between sessions.

Sexual problems can be a really painful source of distress in a person's life, affecting their relationships, self-esteem, or triggering past trauma. I use evidence-based therapy strategies and take a biopsychosocial approach, meaning we consider the biological, psychological, and social factors that all may be contributing to a person's difficulties.

Do you prescribe medication?
Not at this time. As a psychologist, we use talk therapies, assessment, and psychoeducation to help people improve their difficulties. However, we often work closely and communicate often (with client consent) with prescribing health care professionals, such as physicians and nurse practitioners, to ensure that clients have continuity of care.
